Kitchen Extractor Cleaning 

It’s obvious when you think about it, but if your extractor fan is contaminated with dirt, bacteria, dust and viruses, then the air you and your staff breathe will also carry these contaminants. While we clean down surfaces without a second-thought, ductwork and extractors also have to be deep-cleaned periodically to ensure the air we breathe is as clean as possible.

The Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1992 stipulate in section 6 that ‘Effective and suitable provision shall be made to ensure that every enclosed workplace is ventilated by a sufficient quantity of fresh or purified air.’  Where environments have mechanical forms of ventilations, such as commercial kitchens, these same regulations state that these must be maintained. 

If your ductwork is left uncleaned, over time dust and dirt will build up and can block the extracting ductwork, and needless to say it becomes a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria. Not only this, but in many cases, kitchen extractor ductwork penetrates deep into a building and the buildup of grease and dirt becomes a real fire hazard if left uncleaned. 

At Slime & Grime, we offer specialist cleaning of extractor systems tailored to the level of usage and the types and quantity of cooking carried out. We also consider the vulnerability of the system and building to ignition, as well as hygiene, vermin and mechanical hazards. 

Typical cleaning intervals for extractors are: 

Heavy Use (12 – 16 hours per day): every 3 months

Moderate Use (6 – 12 hours per day): every 6 months

Light Use: (2 – 6 hours per day): every 12 months
